Improving Transfusions

A More Effective Approach to Platelet Transfusion

The pre-transplant conditioning, used to prevent rejection, causes blood counts to temporarily drop. Transfusion of platelets (the blood cells responsible for clotting) forms a critical part of treatment for the first month after transplantation to cure sickle cell disease.

This study explores the potential ways of enhancing platelet transfusion therapy in this setting.
